The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is reporting more cases of measles in the southwest part of the state, and the cases have now expanded to eight counties.

KDHE is now reporting 32 cases of measles, with one person hospitalized.  The cases have been reported in Stevens, Morton, Grant, Haskell, Gray and Kiowa, Finney and Ford.  The latest report said 27 of the cases involve people who were unvaccinated, and it’s believed the cases are related to recent outbreaks in Texas, New Mexico and other states.

Health officials said 16 cases were found in children ages 5 to 17, and 10 cases were found in children ages 0 to 4, with six adults who have been affected.

No cases have been reported in Sedgwick County, and the county health department has had two recent measles vaccination clinics to help prevent the spread of the disease.
