A Sedgwick County district judge has ordered a Wichita teenager to stand trial for the shooting deaths of two people during an attempted robbery last year.
A preliminary hearing was held Monday for 16-year-old Elias Cerda. Judge Christopher Magana entered a not guilty plea for Cerda and scheduled the next court appearance for May 2nd.
Cerda is charged with two counts of first degree murder and aggravated attempted robbery. He is accused of shooting 19-year-old Jhiquez Roberts and 14-year-old Emoni Shears at a home in the 5200 block of East Kensington, in a neighborhood northeast of the intersection of 13th and Oliver. The shooting happened on January 24th, 2024 and the victims died at a hospital the next day.
