Hundreds of people gathered outside Sedgwick County’s Historic Courthouse on Saturday as part of a nationwide “Hands Off” event to protest the Trump Administration’s policies in a number of federal agencies and programs.
The protesters carried signs saying “Hands Off Kansas” and “Hands Off Our Democracy,” and they raised concerns over the impact of the administration’s budget cuts on veterans, farmers and the aerospace industry. Similar protests were held in Topeka, Manhattan and Kansas City.
Over a million people in all 50 states showed up for the anti-Trump protests. Rallies were also held around the world to protest recent actions by the Trump administration. Organizers of the “Hands Off” protests say they are demanding an end to the “billionaire takeover and rampant corruption” of the Trump administration, an end to slashing federal funds for Medicaid and Social Security, and an end to “attacks on immigrants, trans people, and other communities.”
