The Multi-Agency Center that has been established by the City of Wichita will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week year-round, continuing its operations beyond the traditional winter shelter for people experiencing homelessness.
The emergency winter shelter at the former Park Elementary School building at 1025 North Main remained open and transitioned to a year-round shelter on April 1st. The nonprofit MAC board of directors is starting six-month agreements with over a dozen organizations for shelter, food, health services, housing and other needs. Full designs for the MAC are still being finalized and work is getting started on renovations and construction for the facility.
HumanKind Ministries has agreed to continue providing shelter in the initial six-month launch phase until the MAC board prepares a long-term proposal. The Lord’s Diner has been providing dinner at the shelter Monday through Friday, and it will serve more meals seven days a week with lunch five days a week.
The City of Wichita recently approved the MAC Board, Inc as the management organization for the shelter, and it will be the coordinating organization to develop the facility.
