An Oklahoma man has been charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of a Catholic priest in a northeast Kansas community.

The charge was filed Friday in Nemaha County District Court against 66-year-old Gary Hermesch of Tulsa.   He was arrested Thursday, April 3rd after the shooting death of 57-year-old priest Arul Carasala.   Officers found Carasala outside the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church rectory in Seneca, and he was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is working with local officials on the case.  No information has been released on the circumstances of the shooting.
