The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has reported a new case of measles in the southwest part of the state, bringing the total number of cases to 25.

The latest case was reported in Finney County, with an adult over the age of 50 who had recently traveled out-of-state.  It’s not known if this is connected to measles outbreaks in other states including New Mexico and Texas.

The first case in Kansas was reported in Stevens County in March, and cases have also been confirmed in Morton, Grant, Haskell, Gray, Kiowa and Finney counties.  KDHE officials said 22 of the cases were children, and 22 cases involved people who were not properly vaccinated.

No cases have been reported in Sedgwick County, and the county health department has had two recent measles vaccination clinics.
