Sedgwick County reveals new voting sticker

1st-place

Sedgwick County Election Commissioner Laura Rainwater has announced the three finalists and the winner of this year’s “I Voted” sticker contest.

This is the second year for the contest, which is open to students in grades 6 through 12.   Rainwater said there were 215 entries from 20 different schools and home schools, and they were judged by a four-member bipartisan panel.

The winning design was submitted by 12th grade student Madeline Smith from Valley Center High School, showing a plane taking off into a sunrise image.   The design will be on the “I Voted” stickers that will be distributed during the primary and general elections this year in the county.

The 2nd place design was from 8th grade student Riley McAlister of Derby North Middle School, showing a sunflower in front of an American flag.

The 3rd place design was submitted by 9th grader Ruby Dalbom of the Saint Michael’s Academy home school, and it has an airplane towing a banner over a Wichita skyline.

Rainwater said the contest is aimed at getting young people and future voters interested and engaged in elections, and other counties are having similar contests to design their own “I Voted” stickers.
