A Harvey County district judge has sentenced a Newton man to nine years in prison for child sex crimes.

In a hearing Monday, Mark Shields was sentenced to 108 months and he will be subject to lifetime post-release supervision and lifetime registration as a sexual offender.   Shields pleaded guilty in January to charges of kidnapping, aggravated indecent solicitation of a child and aggravated battery.

Prosecutors said the crimes occurred between October 1, 2023 and July 15, 2024, and the victim was 10 years old at the time.
