Former Burns police chief sentenced in child porn case

The former police chief of Burns has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for federal charges involving child pornography.

The sentence was handed down for 39-year-old Joel Womochil of El Dorado, who was one of four people charged in the case.  He had pleaded guilty to charges of  of conspiracy to commit sexual exploitation of a child and production of child pornography.   He was given 30 years on each count, and the sentences will run consecutively.

Prosecutors said Womochil was found to have 13 child porn videos.  He had served as the police chief in Burns from February, 2022 until his resignation in August, 2023 shortly before his arrest.
