Today, we salute Army National Guard Veteran William Bottger. William will tell you that, overall, the military was good for him during his 22 years, which included time in Iraq. Yet his time overseas left him with permanent injuries, including PTSD, short-term memory loss, hearing loss in his right ear, and the devastating loss of his right eye due to a disease called histoplasmosis, a fungal infection caused by inhaling airborne spores from contaminated soil. Thankfully, he has Roxie, his loyal beagle mix that stays by his side constantly. When he first met Roxie, he noticed the ‘bat signal’ pattern in her fur, and she has been his superhero ever since. William says Roxie is everything to him. Enjoy being a dynamic duo, William, and THANK YOU for your service.
