The Kansas Highway Patrol said a trooper removed a kidnapped 6-year-old girl from a vehicle during a traffic stop in February, and two men were taken into custody.
The KHP did not give an exact date or location, but said a trooper assigned to a criminal interdiction unit had stopped an SUV for a traffic violation. It was discovered that the front seat passenger had a warrant from another state for kidnapping a 6-year-old girl a month earlier. The driver had a criminal history including homicide and weapons violations.
The trooper and a deputy from a sheriff’s office secured the vehicle and removed the two men, and the trooper removed the girl from the vehicle. The girl gave a false name as she had been coached to do, but the trooper was able to get her to give her real name. The KHP said she was the kidnapping victim, who had been with the suspects for over a month on the run. The girl was unharmed and the two men, both in their 60s, were taken into custody.
