McConnell Air Force Base was planning to conduct controlled burns in the southeast area of the base on Thursday.
Burns will tentatively begin in the area near 47th Street and Rock Road. After post-burn assessments, the base will continue burns this weekend moving westward.
The Air Force Wildland Fire Branch worked with the McConnell Fire Department to prepare the prescribed areas for safe burning this week. Controlled fires like these remove excess vegetation under careful supervision to reduce the risk of any future uncontrolled wildfires.
