Today, we salute Army Veteran Mike McRae. Mike’s military career began when his father, a Vietnam War Veteran, died in 1989. It was McRae’s first year of college, and he decided to join the Army both for financial reasons and to honor his father’s memory. As part of his service, he served on a humanitarian mission to Florida after Hurricane Andrew and loaded tanks in Germany during the Gulf War. After his service, he battled alcohol addiction. At his lowest point, he was homeless and was lucky to get help at a YWCA Gateway Independence facility. Now, he’s the YWCA director of Veterans Affairs, and he remains ready to help other Veterans navigate their way back from homelessness. Thank you for helping others, Mike, and THANK YOU for your service.
