Charges have been filed in connection with vandalism that was discovered at a north Wichita church.
During a court appearance Wednesday, 23-year-old Michael Gonzalez with burglary and criminal desecration, along with two misdemeanor charges of theft and criminal damage to property. His bond was set at $500,000 and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 31st.
Gonzalez was arrested after police discovered damage and hate slogans on March 15th at St. Patrick Catholic Church in the 2000 block of North Hillside. There was damage to statues, damage and glass, and hate slogans were spray-painted on the church. An American flag was also burned. Gonzalez was arrested the next day in the 2800 block of North Hillside. State corrections officials said Gonzalez has previous convictions in Saline County for burglary, criminal damage to property and criminal threat.
