Today, the AWESOME is in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Michael Zollicoffer always made sure, no matter what, no matter the money issue, if you were a patient of his, you’d be seen. His kindness made him a beacon of his community for over 40 years. Jump ahead to now, and the 66-year-old pediatrician is battling cancer, and due to a mix-up in medicare paperwork, his radiation treatments aren’t covered. Now, it was time for his patients to give back to him. They started a GoFundMe page that has raised almost $240K. Michael said, “I’m thankful that I got cancer because I am the happiest man on the planet, no matter what the outcome. What we have shown—and why we’re sitting at this table right now—is to show America that this is what we’re about. We are about giving! I can’t make it without them, nor can they make it without me.” A shining reminder that we need to take care of each other…AND THAT’S AWESOME.
