A Wichita man has been sentenced to almost two years in prison for several shoplifting incidents that happened last year.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office said 29-year-old D’Amos Dear pleaded guilty to nine counts of theft in December, and because of his criminal history he was considered “presumptive prison” under state sentencing guidelines.   He was sentenced to 21 months in prison with 12 months of post-release supervision.

Prosecutors said Dear and another suspect, 37-year-old Kara Aukes of Wichita, took clothing from Academy Sports and Dick’s Sporting Goods stores in Wichita.  They also took shoes from a Kohl’s store, a coffeemaker from JC Penney and a ceiling fan from a Lowe’s store.   Aukes had fewer prior convictions than Dear and was considered “presumptive probation” under the sentencing guidelines, so she was sentenced to probation last September.
