Wichita police have announced an arrest in a cold case homicide from 2021. A 31-year-old Sedgwick County man has been arrested and booked into jail for first degree murder.
The shooting happened on March 29th, 2021 around 1:30 a.m. and the victim, 21-year-old Abram Galvan, went to a hospital where he died a short time later. Police found that the shooting had taken place near 19th and Jackson.
Investigators continued to work on the case, following up on leads, analyzing forensic and electronic evidence, collaborating with local media to encourage witnesses to come forward, and featuring the case on WPD’s Cold Case Homicide website. New information developed early this year, leading investigators to identify a potential suspect. On Wednesday, with assistance from the United States Marshal’s Office, WPD investigators took the suspect into custody without incident.
Information on the case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.
Police Chief Joe Sullivan issued a statement saying, “This arrest is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our Homicide Section. It also underscores the power of community cooperation in bringing justice to grieving families. We remain committed to holding those responsible for violence in our community accountable.”
