Wichita City Council members are in Washington, D.C. this week for an annual conference to discuss issues facing American cities.
The National League of Cities is having its Congressional Cities Conference through Wednesday. The agenda includes discussions on public policy relating to public safety, transportation, health, housing, economic development and partnering with the federal government.
On Monday, Council members met with Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and presented her with a Keeper of the Plains sculpture. Wichita Mayor Lily Wu and Council members expressed thanks for the first responders who went to the scene of the January 29th plane crash involving American Eagle Flight 5342 from Wichita and an Army helicopter. Mayor Wu said she would be looking for more information on the investigation into the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board is continuing to look into the causes of the crash and the agency has yet to release a preliminary report.
Members of the Mayor’s Youth Council also made the trip to Washington for the conference.
