Wichita Animal Services and the Kansas Humane Society say they are close to their capacity for animals, because more dogs and cats are being brought in with the winter weather.

Lily Meadows with Animal Services said daily intakes are increasing, leaving less space in the shelter.  With crowding conditions, animals will face more stress and they will be more susceptible to illness.    The Kansas Humane Society was reporting that its kennels are close to 90 percent capacity.

Meadows said people can help by sharing Facebook posts of animals in the shelter, making an adoption reservation, and helping to connect rescue organizations with the Kansas Humane Society.   People who can’t adopt can foster a pet for a period of time.

People who lose their pets can check with the 24petconnect.com web site, or by going to a shelter during its operating hours.
