The City of Wichita is beginning the process of converting some downtown streets from one-way to two-way traffic.

Mayor Lily Wu said during the next week, crews will be working on Emporia, from Central to Murdock.  For the week of March 10th, the conversion will take place on Topeka, from Douglas to Murdock.

Future conversions will be made on Main and Market.

City officials say the conversion will improve traffic flow, enhance safety by slowing down vehicles, increase accessibility for local businesses, and promote better pedestrian connectivity.  The change will generally create a more livable urban environment, as two-way streets can encourage more frequent interaction with businesses along the street due to slower speeds and more exposure to passing drivers.
