A one-year-old girl died Friday night after a shooting at a south Wichita home, and her father has been arrested on a felony murder charge.

Police were called to the 2200 block of South Santa Fe around 8:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting.  That’s in a neighborhood northeast of the intersection of Pawnee and Broadway. A girl was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper body, and she died a short time later.   Her name has not been released.

Police were on the scene into the late-night hours looking into the circumstances of the shooting, then they arrested the girl’s father on charges of felony murder, aggravated child endangerment, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Another child who was in the home at the time of the shooting was placed in police protective custody.  The mother was questioned and later released.
