Parsons police arrested a man who tried to kidnap a newborn baby from a hospital.

Officers were called to Labette Health around 6 Tuesday evening after being notified that hospital security had taken the man into custody.   They looked at video surveillance footage and interviewed several witnesses, confirming that that the man had tried to leave the OB Ward with a one-day-old infant without authorization. According to reports, a family member of the child confronted the man before he could leave the ward, stopping him from taking the baby. Hospital security then stepped in and held the man at the scene until law enforcement arrived.

The investigation revealed that the man was known to the family and has a reported history of drug use.  He was booked into jail and information was presented to the Labette County Attorney’s Office for the filing of charges.
