Andrew Lester, the Missouri man who pleaded guilty to shooting a Black teenager in the head when he went to the wrong house, has died while awaiting sentencing.
Ralph Yarl, who was 16 at the time, was picking up his brothers when he accidentally went to Lester’s house in April, 2023. Lester shot Yarl twice in the head and arm, leaving him with a traumatic brain injury.
Lester, who was 86, faced multiple charges and while he initially maintained his innocence, he struck a deal last week and pled guilty to second degree assault. On Wednesday prosecutors announced that Lester died while awaiting his sentencing on March 7th.
