The Republican-dominated Kansas Legislature voted Tuesday to override Governor Laura Kelly’s veto of a bill to ban gender-affirming care for minors.

The House voted 84-35 to override the veto, and then the Senate voted 34-9 for the override, putting the ban into effect.

Senate Bill 63 will prohibit health care providers from delivering surgery, hormones or puberty-blockers to persons under 18.  Providers who defy the ban will lose their license.
