The American Red Cross of South Central and Southeast Kansas is looking for volunteers to help with an upcoming program to distribute smoke alarms.
Sound the Alarm is a home fire safety and fire alarm installation event that will take place in Wichita on March 1st. Teams were pre-canvassing some Wichita neighborhoods during the past week to spread the word about the upcoming installations.
Those interested can register now at www.tinyurl.com/WichitaSoundTheAlarm to volunteer during the Red Cross Sound the Alarm event on March 1, 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. No prior experience is needed. Training will be provided at the Wichita office at 707 N. Main before volunteer teams — with members of the Red Cross and local fire departments — visit area homes to install smoke alarms and share fire safety information during scheduled appointments.
People who need smoke alarms can visit soundthealarm.org/Kansas to schedule an appointment during the March 1st event.
The event is part of the national Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, which has helped save 2,266 lives since launching in October 2014. The work is made possible with donations from regional agencies, FEMA, State Farm Insurance and the Wichita Fire Department.
