Catastrophic weekend flooding is blamed for at least one dozen deaths, almost all of them in Kentucky. The storm system triggered more than one-thousand rescues and widespread road closures across parts of the Southeast.
The governor of Kentucky gave an update on Monday and said the death toll has risen to eleven in his state. Another death was reported in Georgia and in Tennessee authorities had to order evacuations after floodwaters breached a levee.
Elsewhere, tornado outbreaks were confirmed in Mississippi and Alabama.
