Today, we salute Marine Veteran Diane Brady and Navy Veteran Shawn Husted. At 77 years old, Diane has been a teacher, served her country, and faced life’s challenges head-on, all with a positive attitude. In her home, she’s surrounded by stuffed animals. Many were gifts, but some were more special than that. Some were made by fellow Veteran and friend Shawn, who has been making the bears for about 50 years. Between the two of them, they have been dedicated to donating their time to collect toys and make bears for Toys for Tots. Over the years, Husted says she has made hundreds of bears — many of which are donated. Early last year, Shawn underwent a double bypass surgery. After the surgery, she had a stroke, and a week-long coma followed. However, during her recovery, Husted’s determination to keep crafting bears never wavered. Diane says that through their work and her connection with Shawn, she hopes to inspire those around her to appreciate life, spread love, and support veterans. Thank you both for helping, and THANK YOU, DIANE AND SHAWN, for your service.
