A youth development program in Wichita has opened a pop-up cafe inside the Advanced Learning Library in downtown Wichita.

The Legacy Works program provides workforce development and growth opportunities for high school students.  It operates the Coffee Works program, a garden program and Pottery Works.  Teens apply through a web site.

Coffee Works program director Rowdy Wend talked about the program during Wichita Mayor Lily Wu’s weekly news conference, which was held at the Advanced Learning Library on Thursday.   He said Legacy Works has a mission of giving teenagers and young adults a space to thrive and discover themselves and what they want to do.   He said the cafe will operate Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.    He said the teens who operate the cafe have said they feel more connected to their city, they’re excited to use the library’s resources to learn how to build good futures for themselves, and they are enjoying connecting with customers and fellow citizens.
