The winter storm moving through Kansas has forced some facilities and school districts to cancel classes for Wednesday.

The Sedgwick County Zoo will be closed to the public on Wednesday.

McConnell Air Force Base will go to a mission-essential only status for Wednesday, and the West Gate will be closed.

Among the closings:

  • USD 282 – West Elk
  • USD 305 – Salina
  • USD 393 – Solomon, no evening activities
  • USD 397 – Centre
  • USD 398 – Peabody-Burns
  • USD 405 – Lyons
  • USD 408 – Marion-Florence
  • USD 411 – Goessel, all activities canceled
  • USD 418 – McPherson
  • USD 419 – Canton-Galva, no evening activities
  • USD 423 – Moundridge
  • USD 473 – Chapman, no evening activities
  • The Independent School in Wichita
  • The Wichita Montessori School

Delays:

  • Friends University in Wichita will open at noon, and morning classes will be online.  The cafeteria will be open from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch, with regular dinner hours from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.   Staff are asked to work remotely if possible and direct any questions to their supervisors.  Homecoming basketball games and activities for Wednesday evening will go on as scheduled
