Wichita’s Exploration Place science museum has opened an acclaimed new exhibit on sharks.

Sharks, developed by The Australian Museum, is one of the largest traveling exhibits ever hosted by Exploration Place.  It includes ten life-sized, scientifically precise shark models, including the Great White, the Hammerhead and the extinct Helicoprion, with a spiral-toothed jaw that earned it the nickname of “Buzzsaw Shark.”

Visitors will be able to feel the roughness of shark skin, examine a massive megalodon jaw and even see through the eyes of a hammerhead shark in 360-degree vision. Interactive displays let guests dissect a virtual shark, engineer new shark species to survive in different environments and discover how sharks have evolved over millions of years.  The exhibit also features a cutting-edge “oceanarium” that creates a dramatic, immersive underwater environment where massive sharks glide by through digital projections.

The exhibition is included with admission to Exploration Place. For those seeking an even more intense experience, the museum will host three special Sharks in the Dark overnight events on March 14, March 28, and April 4. More information is available at exploration.org/events.
