A 75-year-old man died at a hospital after a hit-and-run crash Thursday evening in the Oaklawn neighborhood, just south of Wichita.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said the man was driving east on 47th Street South around 5 p.m. when he was hit by a southbound SUV at Clifton. The man was thrown from his vehicle and then run over by his vehicle. He was identified as Manolopoulos Panagiotis of Wichita.
The SUV left the scene and deputies began looking for it. With help from witnesses and information provided to 911, they tracked a license plate to the Walmart store in Derby, then a 24-year-old Derby woman was arrested at a nearby home. She was booked into jail for failure to stop at an accident. The Sheriff’s Office said her five-year-old child was in the car at the time of the crash, but neither she nor the child was injured.
Information will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.
