All 67 victims have been recovered from last week’s mid-air collision near Washington, DC. Officials confirmed the news on Tuesday, and they said 55 of the victims had been identified.
An American Airlines plane on a flight from Wichita collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter on January 29th, causing both to fall into the Potomac River. Vigils were held in Wichita and at locations across the country on Monday to remember the victims.
The cockpit and tail from the regional jet were recovered earlier in the day. The National Transportation Safety Board has started its investigation of the crash, using the data and cockpit voice recorders recovered from the jet. A preliminary report is expected in about a month.
