The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office is warning residents of a new version of a jury duty scam that has been going on.

An area resident reported getting a voicemail from someone claiming to be a Sheriff’s Sergeant, saying to call back right away.  The resident suspected the call was a scam, but called the number back.  The person said he was a Sheriff’s Sergeant and needed two surety bonds of $1,200 each to resolve the judge’s citation and fee for missing jury duty.

The resident later searched the Sergeant’s name and found it on LinkedIn, and it’s believed this is how the scammer got the name.

The DA’s Consumer Protection Division is reminding residents that a law enforcement organization will never call about missing jury duty and ask for a surety bond or cash card.  Anyone who gets a call like this should just hang up.
