Hutchinson fire officials said two people were killed and two others were taken to a hospital after a house fire early Saturday.
Fire crews were called to the 1000 block of East 3rd around 3:20 a.m. and they were told people may be trapped in the basement. They saw smoke coming from a home, then went inside and found a hole in the first floor, but they were able to get to a stairwell and get to the basement where they found three victims and the source of the fire. Crews were able to get the victims out and bring the fire under control.
An adult and a juvenile were pronounced dead at the scene. Another adult was taken to a hospital along with another juvenile who was found by police outside the home as crews arrived.
The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office is working with the Hutchinson Fire Department to investigate the cause of the fire. Anyone with information is urged to contact Reno County Crime Stoppers or Hutchinson police at 620-694-2816 and submit case number 2025-4633.
