The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has confirmed suicide as the cause of death for a former Kansas City, Kansas police detective who was facing federal charges for sexual assault.

The body of 71-year-old Roger Golubski was found at his Edwardsville, Kansas home on December 2nd, 2024 after failing to show up for the first day of his court hearing.  The KBI said agents recovered a handgun on the back deck of the home near Golubski’s body, and they traced the gun to a woman who lives in Kansas City, Missouri.  The woman said the gun had been stolen from her vehicle in 2022.   The KBI said there was no relationship or connection found between Golubski and the gun owner, and it’s not known how he gained possession of the gun.

The investigation found that Golubski left his house for the federal trial, but he never arrived at the courthouse.  He made several phone calls to family members and to his attorney and then returned home.  His roommate reported hearing a gunshot around 9 a.m. and then called 911.

The KBI said the autopsy report concluded that Golubski’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, and it was a suicide. Foul play is not suspected and the KBI has concluded its investigation.

Golubski was facing trial for sexually abusing several women, using the authority of his job as a police detective.
