The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a stream advisory for the Little Cow Creek to Cow Creek, south of Lyons in Rice County.
The advisory was issued because of operation problems at a wastewater treatment plant operated by the city of Lyons, and crews have been working to make repairs.
Health officials say there is a potential for elevated levels of bacteria and contaminants in Little Cow Creek to Cow Creek. People who live in the area are urged to avoid entering the creek and they should not allow children or pets into the creek.
