Kansas and Iowa are among 19 states calling on Costco to end its DEI practices.

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird have sent a letter to the retail company calling for an end to what they call “discriminatory practices.”

Kobach said in a press release, “Racial discrimination is both immoral and illegal.  Race-based employment hiring violates state and federal law,” and the letter notes that some companies face lawsuits related to their DEI practices and Costco could be exposed to potential legal liability.  The letter gives Costco officials 30 days to notify state attorneys general that the company has repealed its DEI policies or explain why Costco has failed to do so.

The other states that signed onto the letter include Missouri, Arkansas and Nebraska.
