A major street in west Wichita will be closed for a month so crews can begin construction on a series of improvements.
West Street will be completely closed from MacArthur to 47th Street South. Traffic will be detoured to Meridian, but access will be maintained for homes and businesses along West Street.
After a month, the street will reopen to northbound traffic only for the remainder of the project, which is expected to be completed in the spring of 2026.
West is being expanded from two lanes to three with the addition of a center left-turn lane. There will also be a multi-use pathway and a sidewalk, along with drainage improvements.
Residents are urged to plan their route and allow for extra travel time.
