A 28-year-old man died after an officer-involved shooting late Thursday night in southeast Wichita.

Police said the man kicked in the door of a home in the 5800 block of East Mainsgate and pointed a rifle at a person inside.  No shots were fired and the man left, then he made statements on social media about suicide.   His car was picked up by a license plate reading system and officers tracked him to a parking lot at Spirit Aerosystems in the 3900 block of South Oliver.

Police said the man got out of his car shortly after 11 p.m. and fired about 20 shots at law enforcement officers.    Five Wichita officers and three Sedgwick County deputies returned fire and the man was hit.   He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called in to look into the shooting, and agents were on the scene during the night.
