The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 29-year-old inmate.
The inmate was found unresponsive around 10 p.m. Monday on the floor of his cell in Pod 6. The jail’s medical staff and EMS crews provided medical treatment, but the inmate was pronounced dead. He was identified as Rashawn Pleass of Rockford, Illinois.
The inmate had been in custody since December 23rd of 2023, facing charges of aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery and possession of opiates. This is the jail’s first in-custody death of 2025.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation will work with the Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office to look into the circumstances.
