Even colder temperatures and some snow will move into western and southern areas of Kansas.

Light snow is expected to move west to east across the southern half of the state on Monday.  Southwest Kansas could see one to three inches of accumulation, but central and south central parts of the state will get a trace to an inch.  A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for southwest and part of south central Kansas, including Pratt and Barber counties.

KFDI’s weather partners at KWCH expect the snow to begin in Wichita around 10 a.m. and it should come to an end by 3 p.m.   The snow is expected to be dry and powdery but still may cause some slick spots on roads and highways.

After lows in the single digits, temperatures will reach highs in the mid-teens for south central Kansas and the lows Monday night will fall below zero.   Highs on Tuesday will be in the 20s.

The Wichita Fire Department is asking people to stay off of frozen ponds and lakes as the temperature drops.  People are urged to avoid walking on ice-covered surfaces and keep an eye on children and pets.   If you see a pet on the ice, call 911 and don’t try to rescue the animal yourself.
