The City of Wichita has ordered the closure of a west side hotel over safety concerns.

The order was issued for Economy Hotel Plus+ in the 5800 block of West Kellogg Drive.   The Wichita Police Department, the Fire Department, the State Fire Marshal’s Office and members of the community raised concerns over the past few months about conditions at the hotel, including criminal incidents.   Early on Tuesday, a woman in her 20s was hospitalized after being shot at the hotel in an incident that police said involved drugs.

With bitter cold temperatures moving in for the weekend, the city ordered the hotel closed and the guests evacuated immediately.   Police officers, firefighters and city housing and transit staff were at the hotel to help guests find resources and shelter.
