After mild temperatures on Friday, the thermometer will take a deep dive into colder temperatures as Arctic air moves into Kansas for the weekend.
Highs in the Wichita area will be near 50, but an Arctic system will begin moving into the state during the nighttime hours. Highs on Saturday will be in the mid-20s and Sunday will have a high of only 13, with single digit temperatures at night.
Snow is expected in southwest Kansas, but it will only be flurries or light snow. KFDI’s weather partners at KWCH Storm Team 12 are calling for one to three inches in the southwest part of the state, but there will be no accumulation in northern, central or eastern areas.
Temperatures will be 30 to 40 degrees below average from Sunday through Tuesday, raising concerns of frostbite. People are urged to bundle up and also follow safety precautions with space heaters and heating systems in their homes.
