The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam that is targeting county residents.
A caller will impersonate a sheriff’s deputy and claim that a resident missed federal jury duty, and the caller threatens arrest unless an immediate payment is made.
The Sheriff’s Office said it will never contact people by phone to demand payment or threaten arrest for missed jury duty, and any legitimate communications will be made by mail, not by phone.
Residents are urged not to provide any personal information or make payments to any caller who asks for gift cards, wire transfers or cryptocurrency. Anyone who receives a suspicious call like this should hang up.
