A Wichita man serving time for a fatal 2023 shooting has died at the Lansing Correctional Facility.
Corrections officials said 25-year-old Angel Pedro Lara died Wednesday morning at a hospital after he became ill Tuesday at the prison clinic. The cause of death is under investigation.
Lara was serving a 123-month sentence on a conviction of second degree murder out of Sedgwick County. He was convicted in the May, 2023 shooting death of 31-year-old Chance Martin. Police said Martin was shot in the Planeview neighborhood after he confronted Lara about a missing scooter.
