Winfield police arrested a Georgia man after a five-hour standoff Tuesday at a motel.
Officers were called to the Econolodge at 1710 Main Street around 12:30 after a report of a disturbance. Motel employees reported that a man stepped out of a room and began yelling at them, and he was banging a large hunting knife against a window. Police were unable to talk the man into leaving the room, and a SWAT team went into the room and took the man into custody around 6 p.m.
A 48-year-old man from Pine Mountain, Georgia was booked into the Cowley County jail. Police said he did not have any known connections with anyone in Winfield.
