Today, we salute Air Force Veteran Maria Cabrera. The Houston Marathon is this weekend, and for the first time, Maria is running it. Maria, a patrol sergeant with the Houston Police Department, is running for a couple of reasons. One is to push herself and test her limits. The other is for a hero. Maria is running to honor U.S. Sgt. Marine Nicole Gee, who died during the Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021. Maria didn’t know Nicole personally, but she feels a connection. Thank you for your service, Maria, and Thank you, Nicole, for your sacrifice.
