A program involving the City of Wichita, the Veterans Administration and the United Way of the Plains is reporting progress in efforts to end homelessness among veterans.
An update was presented Thursday during Wichita Mayor Lily Wu’s weekly news conference. Matt Lowe with United Way said the program in its first 18 months has provided housing for 244 veterans, but there is more work to be done. Lowe said in order to reach the goal of functional zero homelessness by November, the pace of monthly leasing needs to increase and local landlords are invited to join the effort.
Landlords who are willing to make one or more units available to veterans in need are urged to contact VA Housing Specialist Kristi Evans at 316-889-4417.
Lowe said the Coalition to End Homelessness in Wichita/Sedgwick County is committed to providing the ongoing case management and services needed to make sure veterans are set up for success and do not return to homelessness.
