The Wichita City Council has approved a settlement of $300,000 to the family of a man who was struck and killed by a police vehicle early last year.
Without comment, the Council approved the settlement Tuesday in the death of 51-year-old Jeffrey Moss. He was crossing the street in the 1300 block of West MacArthur on February 17th, 2024 when he was hit by a police SUV. The officer driving the vehicle said he did not see Moss, and he admitted to deleting emails on his in-car computer at the time of the crash. The Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the incident and reported that Moss had been intoxicated, was wearing dark clothing, and was not in a crosswalk. The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges, saying there was no evidence of criminal liability.
