The Wichita Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) worked to make contact with homeless people ahead of the winter storm that moved in over the weekend, and the department released a report Monday on that effort.
The HOT teams made 110 total contacts, and 76 people refused to go to shelter while 21 said they might later. The department said 13 people accepted shelter.
The emergency winter shelter has been operating at the former Park Elementary School at 1025 North Main. City officials have reported that the shelter has not reached capacity since it opened.
